In March 2009, the City of San Antonio, through the Capital Improvement Management Services Department and Public Art San Antonio (PASA), announced 13 local artists were chosen for public art opportunities associated with the 2007-2012 Bond Program. In all, forty-eight local artists participated in the Call for Artist application and nomination process. In the streetscapes category, selected artists are: Angel Rodriguez-Diaz (Blanco Rd); Oscar Alvarado (Walters St); Jack Robbins (Prue Rd); George Schroeder and Katie Pell/Mentorship Partners (New Braunsfels/Nacogdoches); and Mark Schlesinger (Jones Maltsberger). In the drainage category, selected artists are: Diana Kersey (Catalpa Pershing); Oscar Alvarado and David Lozano/Mentorship Partners (Zarzamora); and Bill FitzGibbons (Culebra). In the parks category, selected artists are: Katie Pell (CD4 bundle); Elizabeth Carrington (Tom Slick); and Dale Jenssen (CD7 Pools), and in the Architectural category, selected artists are Chris Sauter (CD3 Branch Library) and Peter Zubiate (CD9 Branch Library). In recent months, all of the artists have started conceptual design development in collaboration with each project’s design team that will eventually develop into fabricated artworks that will impact local streetscapes, drainage, parks, and library projects. Check back to this page regularly for postings of conceptual plans and other news on 2007-2012 Bond Program projects.
