The winning design must make a strong visual statement, must convey a sense ofprogress, and must be inviting, intriguing and thought provoking without being imposing.The winning sculpture will be a focal point not only for the new arena but also for the entire city.As a destination point for residents and visitors of all ages, it will become a visual identity for theCity of Evansville. As part of the City’s collection of public art, the City will have completeownership of the work.

Location: Phoenix, Arizona Deadline: September 3, 2010 Projects: CANAL CROSSINGS PUBLIC ART PROJECT
Arterial Canal Crossings Public Art Project A professional artist will be selected to work with the Street Transportation Department to enhance the design of major street bridges that cross the Salt River Valley canals in Phoenix. The designs will be expected to focus on the bridges’ concrete abutments and metal railings, and address the essential role the canals play in the history and life of Phoenix. The designs will be incorporated into retrofits of the bridges as funds become available in the coming years.

Location: St. Paul Minneapolis Deadline: September 10, 2010 Projects: Catholic Charities Dorothy Day Center
Catholic Charities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, in partnership with Public Art Saint Paul and the Saint Paul Design Center landscape, is seeking an artist to develop a proposal for the design and artistic programming of the Dorothy Day Center in downtown Saint Paul. During 2010 the artist will immerse in the Center to - gain understanding the mission, function, service and clientele of Catholic Charities Dorothy Day Center;
- explore the landscape and its relationship to the Dorothy Day facility and use by Dorothy Day clients and its place in the larger urban context at this critical downtown gateway site
The artist will submit a proposal for the Dorothy Day landscape and its artistic programming based upon insights gleaned from this in-depth exploration. The proposal may include design of the shape and form of the land, amenities and expressive/interpretive elements in multiple media (including text and sound) integrated into the site, and provision for artistic programming.

The Art in Public Places Program of New Mexico Arts and the Local Selection Committee at New Mexico State University seek an artist or artist team to create a site-integrated commission project for the Center for the Arts Performance Hall in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This RFQ is open to professional artists or artist teams who are citizens of the United States, Canada and Mexico, and possess experience commensurate with the project scope and budget. Artists experienced in creating large-scale ceiling murals are encouraged to apply.

The Winnipeg Arts Council invites professional artists to submit expressions of interest for a permanent, contemporary artwork using elements of water and light in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This is a national and international competition for a major artwork to mark the designation of Winnipeg as the Cultural Capital of Canada for 2010, a program of the Government of Canada, Department of Canadian Heritage.
This project will be the largest public artwork to be undertaken in Winnipeg to date. Winnipeg’s Public Art Program includes permanent installations in several locations in Winnipeg, a unique community art initiative and an artist-in-residence component.

1) The North Carolina Arts Council seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create site-specific, outdoor public artwork which interprets, commemorates, and celebrates the African American musical history, heritage, and culture of Eastern North Carolina. This public art project will be a prominent component of the African American Music Trail (AAMT), an initiative of the NC Arts Council, an agency of the NC Department of Cultural Resources. 2) The North Carolina Arts Council seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create site-specific, outdoor artwork which offers seating for greenway trail users and interprets, commemorates, and celebrates the history, heritage, culture, and landscape of Happy Valley, a picturesque rural region of the Yadkin River Valley spanning Caldwell and Wilkes Counties in Northwestern North Carolina.
