Last Minute Call!
To apply: www.callforentry.org
Presented and curated by Stuart Keeler Digital images of unrealized work are desired for presentation at the upcoming Public Art Preconference, Redefining the Public Paradigm. The Salon presentation is scheduled Thursday, June 24, 7:45-9:00 PM at Center Stage in the convention hotel, Waterfront Marriott. Artists, architects, landscape architects, engineers, designers, and students are all eligible to submit projects which have not been built. Works proposed between 1960 and 2010 are especially encouraged for submission. Images may be of any temporary or permanent non-permissioned/non-approved proposals/projects designed for public spaces. It does not matter the reason why the work is not built, just that it has not been realized.
To apply online: www.callforentry.org
Background: The Salon des Refusés was an exhibition of work by French artists who were rejected from the official 1863 Paris Salon. The Salon featured many artists, now considered masters, including Cezanne, Manet, and Pissarro. Keeler will present a Salon des Refusés presentation and discussion on risk-taking in public art and the role of the artist as cultural producer who re-imagines public space.
Acknowledging that there are many reasons why artists and projects are not selected for public art commissions, this presentation seeks to recognize the power of "what could have been."Stuart Keeler is an artist and curator of public spaces and has demonstrated a strong commitment to research based on the role of the artist in the built environment. He has engaged multiple audiences with innovative curatorial projects on the web and in public spaces across the country and abroad. www.R.StuartKeeler.com
