Each month PASA will feature a new artist from its Catalog of On-Site Artist Services (COSAS), allowing viewers a more in-depth look at each artist in the catalogue and showcasing their unique discipline and style.

The June COSAS Artist of the month is Ansen Seale! Ansen is a unique specialty photographer who for the past 10 years has cultivated a remote genre referred to as slit-scan photography.  Through this alternative medium Ansen creates vibrating images that are inspired by time and its relevance, creating a sense of how it may be seen passing through lives.

The technical components of Ansen’s new-media photography can be compared to a modern digital version of the panoramic camera. Recording an alternative view of a portion of time, the slit-scan technique makes moving objects clear, and still objects appear blurry. The resulting images can be compared to color-field paintings, and though they seem manipulated, are true depictions of what Ansen refers to as a "hidden reality." The subject matter of these images is seen through several series of works including Water, Transient Landscape, Temporal Form and X and Time: a dimensional exchange. Along with this new method of photography, Ansen has also completed a series of prints that focus on visualizing numerical patterns and past connections between science, religion and art, entitled Bloodlines. His experience as an artist and his ability to modernize a more traditional form of art are highlighted through his diverse body of work.

Ansen graduated from Trinity University, where he studied printmaking as well as photography, and received a degree in studio art and communication. He has been an artist and photographer for 25 years and recently completed a residency at Franz Mayer of Munich, a premier architectural glass company. Ansen is currently involved in a major City of San Antonio public art project at the Lila Cockrell Theatre.

Ansen’s work was recently published in Art Digital Magazine and Direct Art. The full catalogue of his series of works can be found along with detailed descriptions and images  on his website at  http://ansenseale.com.
