Each month PASA will feature an artist from the Catalog of On-Site Artist Services (COSAS), showcasing their unique discipline and style and allowing viewers a more in-depth look at each artist in the catalogue.
For the month of March the featured artist is Anne Wallace! Anne is a contemporary mixed media artist with a knowledgeable background in natural materials, public contribution, and innovative design. Through organic and recycled materials, her work often reflects her passion for the environments and communities in which she works.
With a significant body of work developed in wood, Anne is also experienced in video, sound, small scale installation, and site specific projects using materials such as concrete, bronze, salvaged objects and wood. She focuses on incorporating multiple perspectives of the culture and history surrounding a project into the final design. As seen in the Florida Street Improvements Project, Anne gathered stories from local residents and stamped their words into the new sidewalks surrounding their homes; resulting in an original and meaningful work of art for the community to embrace.
With deep roots and experience in Texas, Anne is also a graduate from Duke University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She has since gained international exposure through permanent and temporary projects in Mexico, Ireland, Pittsburgh, and Texas. One of her most recent projects involved salvaging and reclaiming a dying oak tree in Brackenridge Park, and incorporating it into her "garden courtyard within a park” piece titled ‘Glorieta’.
Anne’s work can been seen in a variety of venues throughout Texas, and in San Antonio her major projects include the Southtown Improvements project, Brackenridge Park Rehabilitation, and the Florida Street improvements. For more information about COSAS artists, visit our online catalog!
