Welcome to Public Art San Antonio
|
Public Art San Antonio is the City of San Antonio's program responsible for managing public art projects and programs that express the vibrancy and diversity of our community through art and place-making.
Recently the City re-launched the program under the name, Public Art San Antonio (or PASA), established a new Public Art Board, and completed a comprehensive public art master plan to guide future initiatives and improvements.
Working under the Capital Improvements Management Services Department, "PASA" works on a wide variety of capital improvements, and partners with outside agencies to support shared objectives and assist in advancement, innovation and promotion of public art in San Antonio.

Public Art San Antonio has installed new temporary public art exhibits at the San Antonio International Airport. If you are travelling through San Antonio this holiday season stop by the Terminal One display cases and see the show, COSAS: Art for the Built Environment. On display are selected works by local artists whose specialized art goes beyond the gallery, and into the built environment. Also check out the new temporary Skycap murals, outside Terminal Two, an in-house construction wall design created by PASA’s own, Daniel R. Rodriguez. Designed to welcome visitors to San Antonio with images of native plants and traditional architecture, one wall will be up through January 2010, and another through October 2010. These new additions to the airport are temporary installations, so even if you are not traveling through, stop by for a visit before these exhibits fly away. |

The City of San Antonio and Public Art San Antonio is pleased to announce the release of our new website for PASA, COSAS, the City's Public Art Board, and all things public art in San Antonio. The attractive new site has been completely redesigned to feature the up to date information, access, and resources that are essential for our local artists, partners, and our clients and community we serve. The open-source content management system website is focused on two predominant features you may have noticed on the PASA front page, "PASA Public Art Catalog" and "COSAS Catalog of On-Site Artist Services". These two catalogs are portals to all the data, images, and maps you will need to inform yourself about public and privately funded public art projects commissioned in the City, or to find out about local artists and craftspersons working here in our City and completing their works for exterior and interior building projects. In fact, COSAS was the primary driver for this website relaunch as an adopted strategic objective of the 2005 Cultural Collaborative Plan, an initiative which sparked the complete PASA website you have today!

After having searched the nation for a new place to enjoy life and thrive, another new family has chosen San Antonio. Having heard that the San Antonio Missions and the San Antonio River were not only the history of our city but also a big part of its future, they have settled on a site near Mission San Juan, right on the banks of the historic San Antonio River. “Makin' Hay”, an installation of three monumental sculptural figures by internationally acclaimed sculptor Tom Otterness, has been installed on the banks of the San Antonio River for a two-year Public Art San Antonio (PASA) exhibit for the enjoyment of San Antonians of all ages.
The figures, each stand 15’ to 17’ tall and are made of steel and hay. The sculptural figures have been compared by art critics to a painting from 1857 by Jean-Francois Millet called “The Gleaners” which is in the Musée d'Orsay collection in Paris. |
